Is Surgery a Back Pain Relief?

Surgery is the last resort of relief for people suffering from back pain.  Physicians prescribe surgery only when it is chronic and there is little hope for recovery through medicines and home remedies. Surgery is also prescribed when the physician feels that there is some disorder in the backbone that can be corrected only through surgical operations.  Sometimes herniated disc of the back bone causes pain.  Surgery here involves decompression of that is the root cause of pain.

Surgery for back pain includes surgery of disc, spinal cord or creation of more space in the spine. There are also several situations where surgery is imperative for curing back pain. Some people face this disorder due to fractures in spine and dislocation of bones in the back. Spondylolisthesis is also a case where surgery is the only option left. Here, one vertebral position of the person is imbalanced. To eliminate the imbalance, doctors resort to surgery.  In case of some patients neurologic imbalances are the factors behind back pain. To rectify the nerve compression, physicians go for surgery.  Before prescribing for surgery, doctors perform all the pathological tests and ensure themselves that there is no alternative left.
