In today’s society there are numerous medications that are available to help a person reduce the pain that they might be experiencing. Some of the medications are over-the-counter, herbs, and others have to be prescribed.

Some of the over-the-counter pain medications include:

- Non-steroid anti-inflammatory medicines such as Motrin, aspirin, and Aleve.

- Acetaminophen such as Excedrin without aspirin and Tylenol.

- Topical corticosteroids such as Cortisone , Icy Hot, Ben-Gay or Cortaid.

These medication you can purchase without having to have a doctor’s prescription. However, there are some medications that are more potent that does require a doctor prescription such as Opioids. These narcotic pain relievers are generally used when a person has acute pain after a surgery procedure. Some opioids that are used the most are Codeine, Morphine, Oxycodone, or Fentanyl.

If you are not in a great deal of pain, then the over-the-counter medicines should help to ease the pain. If not, then you will want to be sure and consult with your physician, so that he or she might be able to assist you with an alternative treatment plan.
