What is Sciatic Nerve Pain?

As the name suggests, Sciatic Nerve Pain arises due to irritation of the Sciatic nerve. A person suffering from this pain experiences tenderness in the lower back, inner thigh and the surrounding areas. The pain in some cases even radiate below the knee. Sciatic nerve is the largest one in human nervous system. Beginning from nerve roots of spinal cord it extends till buttock. According to medicinal research, disc herniation is the pivotal cause of sciatic nerve pain. When the nerve is compressed due to any reason, there is irritation and inflammation in the bones near to the nerve. In some cases it can also result in tumors, internal bleeding and infection.

Irritation, numbness, or tingling is some of the common symptoms of sciatic nerve pain. Some people find problem in walking while suffering from this disorder. Prolonged walking and bending waist aggravate the pain. Physical examination and past medical record of the patient are pivotal to diagnose sciatic nerve pain. X-ray, CT scan are commonly performed to confirm whether the person is suffering from it. Treatments for this pain vary from person to person. The magnitude of treatment is proportional to the cause of pain and the sternness of the pain the person is feeling.
