Is there anything that can be done to relieve growing pains? |
Massage as well as stretching and daily exercises could help to provide some sort of relief. You must ask your child to exert force on the muscle by pushing his or her toes and feet. However, during this process you must massage the thigh and calf muscles. Pain can also be relieved by applying moist pad which is heated for 4-5 times a day. For the relaxation of muscles it is necessary that the child constantly does exercises. As far as diet is concerned, it is important for your child to have something that contains sufficient amount of calcium, iron and potassium. Also make sure that he or she drinks lots of fluids as it can avoid cramping. It has also been observed that quinine or a glass of water might also help in relieving pain. You can also give them some common medications such as acetaminophen and ibuprofen. However, it is not recommended to give aspirin to children as it can lead to Reye's syndrome. If the pain gets worse and becomes alarming, it would be advisable to consult a doctor so that a proper diagnosis and evaluation can be made along with applying some sort of suitable treatment. |
