Is There Pain Relief For Braces?

People who are thinking of having braces are often quite scared of the pain that accompanies them. Severe pain in the jaw, cuts and mouth sores usually occur during the initial stages of braces. Following are some of the steps that you can take to relieve the pain related with braces.

Taking pain killers: Ibuprofen and acetaminophen, which are over the counter medications, are of great help when it comes to reducing the severe pain in the mouth caused by the presence and constant adjustment of braces.

Placing wax: The friction related with metal fittings and wires of the braces in the mouth often lead to cuts and sores inside the lips and cheeks. Hence, orthodontists usually make a ball of wax and place it over the metal fittings of the braces. They also provide a large amount of wax to the patients and advise them to do the same.

If you take a little quantity of an oral anesthetic on a wad of cotton and apply it to the blisters in the mouth then the anesthetic temporarily makes your mouth numb. This method is very useful at nights allowing the patient to have a nice sleep.
